Facebook spricht seit heute deutsch und irgendwie gehen sie es – wenn man bedenkt, dass Deutschland doch ein Meganischenmarkt ist, 6 Mrd. PIs pro Monat fürs Studivz etc. – ein bisschen locker an und haben es geschafft, daraus einen völligen non-event zu machen. Ist jetzt halt lokalisiert.
Having worked on internationalization at other companies, I can say that the strategy we took at Facebook in translating our site has been quite non-traditional.
non-traditional war dabei crowdsourced, wer wollte konnte Übersetzungen vorschlagen und über Vorschläge abstimmen, und das Ergebnis ist zwar besser als man es von Betriebsanleitungen taiwanesischer Gadgets kennt, aber genauso wenig konsistent wie wenn man Leute bei einem Architekturwettbewerb darüber abstimmen lässt, welche Features in welchem Entwurf am besten sind, und darauf basiert ein neues Haus zusammenzimmert.
Man versteht jetzt vielleicht auch ohne Englisch was man tun kann, aber man fühlt sich auf keinen Fall wohl. Bei Services die primär Werkzeuge für irgendwas sind ist das oft genug, aber für eine Seite auf der eine teilweise anglophobe Crowd den ganzen Tag lang abhängen soll ist das zu wenig.
