beQueen is a newly launched community about lifestyle, fashion, beauty, love and everything else of interest to the (stereotypical) woman.
The site has a few sections with editorial content and a community section with features like clubs, forums, blogs and lots of other ways to express yourself and contribute texts and thoughts, hook up with other members, chat and communicate. The central metaphor – as the name suggests – is about women being queens and the site lets them create their queendoms. Men become kings and are welcome too, they also are creating queendoms though.
Both editorial content and queen created content can be tagged, rated, commented on, recommended via email, the authors can be contacted, etc. If there is a textbook around on how to socialise your content they definitely have read it. It is also possible to bookmark anything or track topics on a watchlist.
beQueen is a project form Abantis GmbH, a recently founded daughter of major German publisher Burda Digital which seems to set out to marry editorial content with social features. A similar project is already in the pipeline and if they are as commited as sister company Burda Digital Ventures we are going to see quite a few new sites in the weeks to come.
