highly recommended: Arianna Huffingtons Pamphlet zur Selbst- und Welteinschätzungskrise der Medien – etwas lang, aber ein mehr oder weniger vollständiger Rundown über fast alle damit verbundenen Thesen und durchaus auch mit Emphase für die Position der MSM (die unfruchtbarkeit des us vs. them, kritik an den immer abwegiger werdenden metaphern, die zu immer abwegigererem denken führt, das paradox mit dem geschäftsmodell die wall st. zufrieden stellen zu müssen und mit den abgeleiteten aktivitäten genau gegen alles zu arbeiten, was sie sich auf die fähnchen stecken, eine relativierung der aktuell ausgemachten feindbilder (google, aggregatoren), die lächerlich im vergleich zum gesamten shift sind, zum irrglauben von exklusivität, zum versagen bei den wichtigsten stories (irak, finanzkrise), zum social turn von news an sich usw.)

Any sufficiently overheated industry will eventually resemble high school. High school is filled with insecurity, social climbing, backbiting, false friends, faux achievements, high drama and not much content. Much of this insecurity comes from a market that doesn’t make good judgments, that doesn’t understand how to reliably choose between alternatives.
