Sneak Peek At Trupoli Statements Of Polititians Reloaded

We got invited to take a sneak peak at Trupoli – a community about politics – which currently is in private beta. The site has high flying taglines (“Trupoli is politics 2.0”, “Trupoli brings democracy to the web”, the name actually stands for True Politics), at its core it is a platform for socially reviewing assessing statements of politicians.

Statements are associated with a topic and a politician, of course, and usually are linked to the original source to evaluate the statement in its context. Each member then can rate statements in their importance and the degree of consent, can comment them and can subscribe to updates from other members.

While it might be interesting to discuss issues based on statements the real power of Trupoli kicks in when browsing the various views since they have done a great job in aggregating the individual ratings. Polititians can be ranked by popularity (how much interest has been attracted by their statements), trustworthyness or consent, trends for politicians are calculated and hot topics emerge based on the number of statements and the corresponding interest.

Since statements are also categorized by topic and location over time a rich pool of information will build up and there are many ways to navigate this information. Opinion spam could become a problem.

Trupoli was founded in April 2007 by Johannes Zumpe, Rudolf Zeilhofer and Anian Leistner with seed investment from Olaf Jacobi and Friedrich von Diest. Additional funding has been raised from Rudolf Singer, Christof Baumgärtner and Kathrin Jacobi.
