Youop Discover Locations And Likeminded People

Munich based youop is a new platform for recommendations which wants to hook up people with related interests.

We have quite a few services in Germany which adress the issue of local knowledge by mapping people with places, locations, bars, restaurants, etc. Qype is the most popular site by far, but also mywhere2go, TownKings, TownQueens, Townster, Tripsbytips, Vagabund or Yumondo are all competing in this space.

youop takes personal recommendations to the next level by providing a lot of types of objects users can review or recommend. The focus is still on locations (shops, restaurants, bars, doctors, etc.) but users also can rate books, CDs, movies, software, games or even create their very own objects.

Based on your likes and dislikes youop suggests more things you might like or other members with similar interests who live in your neighborhood. Another usecase is to discover interesting places when you are new to a city since you can filter the results based on other members with similar interests to you. In a way youop adds a layer of semantics to recommendations and provides a variety of axes to navigate the site.

youop is developed by Andreas Meinl and David Holzmann, two students at the Technical University in Munich. The site is self funded, they are looking for investors. Coming features are internationalisation, a mobile version and a module for market research.
