Facebook Network Germany Grows By 1000 Users Each Day

Interesting find from Martin Weigert: the Facebook network Germany attracted more than 1000 new users yesterday for the first time on a single day. Martin has been keeping track of new members for a while, the average growth in recent weeks has been at around 500 new members each day. This might be due to some coverage in mainstream media on Facebook’s opening the profiles to the public, but it might also be a gentle and early indicator for network effects kicking in. This number might not sound like a big deal at a platform with 34 million users, but Facebook still is largely unknown in Germany and students sign up to StudiVZ per default.

This number doesn’t reflect the total number of Germans signing up of course. Not every new German user joins the Germany network (e.g. I didn’t), on the other hand everyone interested can join. Since it is a recommended network to join when you sign up from Germany, there should be a strong corellation between new members at the network and Germans signing up to Facebook.
